Nursery progress

May 26th, 2012

Since so many of you live elsewhere, I’m going to try to post pictures of the nursery as we get it ready. Nursery. It still feels so weird to say.

I forgot to take a total “before” picture before we painted, but if I dig one up from who-knows-when I’ll post it. In the meantime, here’s what the room looked like after we Darek painted it and cleared out most of the years of “I don’t know what to do with this so I’ll throw it in the back room” stuff.

Then we spent half a day putting up tree decals (and by “we” I mean “Darek,” because at that point I was already too exhausted and sore to be much help; I think we had done some errands that morning or something). I knew they were going to look cool, but they turned out better than I thought. We’re pretty happy with these.

The next morning, Darek put the cribs together. I’d heard horror stories about cribs being a pain to assemble, but he had both of them together in about 45 minutes. We love these, too. This picture is also more accurate of the wall color, since our yucky yellow light was casting a tint on the previous two. (New light fixture going in soon!)

That was 2 weeks ago and we haven’t done much else to the room that’s picture-worthy yet. More soon (ish – maybe?)!

This one’s a little late; it was part of our “official” maternity session by the great Heather Mount. I’ve grown since then.

26 weeks today!

Today is 26 weeks!

The fluid levels are “stable” – when we went in on Monday, they were about the same as they were the week before. I’m resting as much as I can and cutting back on working. I officially canceled the wedding I was scheduled to shoot next weekend, which was tough, but I know it was for the best. My doctor didn’t think I should do it; even without the fluid issue, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have lasted an hour.

I feel the babies move a lot. I don’t know if they ever sleep. At our sonogram on Monday, the sonographer said they were the most entertaining babies she’d ever seen, the way they’re always flipping around and switching positions. The one with lots of fluid has enough room to stretch her legs completely – not exactly what you picture with babies still on the inside. I can see them moving when I look at my stomach, which is truly bizarre. Sometimes I’m just dying to know what’s going on in there, because it looks like advanced gymnastics or something.

One of them was kicking the other one in the face again. Poor baby. We’re a little worried about what they’re going to be like when they arrive – hopefully not the hyper, violent children they seem to be now!

I can’t believe we’re 10 weeks away. We’re making progress on the nursery, and I’ll try to post pictures of that soon, for all of you out-of-towners (like 90% of you).

We got away last weekend for “one last trip” before the babies come, while we still can.

Finally catching up on photos! This was taken at Cottondale, Darek’s annual family reunion thing out in the boonies.
