We stopped at one end of a parking lot and I practically ran to the other. I was following the light and it did not disappoint.

We drove along the Kancamagus highway in New Hampshire to check out the foliage, and made a stop to take a short hike to Sabbaday Falls. I loooove hiking; it reminds me of growing up in New England, and I miss it terribly, especially in the Fall. It warmed my heart to make this little hike on our trip, and with special friends, it was even more awesome.

We were actually a little late for the peak foliage, but we saw several gorgeous trees here and there:

Oops; sucks to be whoever left these here:

Driving back down the mountain:

For some reason, I decided I wanted to check out some covered bridges while we were up in New England. Maybe because I was really homesick for New England, or maybe because covered bridges just seemed like the thing to see up there – I don’t know. But they were pretty cool.

When I was a kid, we sometimes went to Parker’s to eat pancakes. It’s actually called “Parker’s Maple Barn,” but I remember hearing it being called Parker’s Pancake House. That may just be my awesome mom mixing up her words, but it’s what it will forever be ingrained in my brain as. It’s a place I associate with Fall, and New England, and family and friends. And just good times in general.

What I remember most is not the pancakes (I don’t really like pancakes all that much) but seeing the maple syrup come out of the trees. It was magical.

Though, in all fairness, I also remember that their blueberry pancakes were the first pancakes I ever declared to be “actually ok.” So I guess that counts for something. Actually they were good.

We met up with our special friends Janine and Denise and we ate pancakes. Like old times.

First, a photo of what Darek did that morning:
