This is a variant of a recipe Darek learned in his cooking class. The recipe was for “Cream of vegetable puree soup” and you basically add whatever veggie you want, and anything else that sounds good. So we added broccoli and cheese to make a broccoli cheese soup.

Getting the onion and broccoli ready:

We learned about scallops:

So, the only cheese we had on hand was leftover fondue cheese….

It got a little better…

Then it all went in the blender for pureeing:

And then went in the bowl:

It was a good jumping off point, but we’ll definitely make some changes in the future. For one, we’ll have actual cheese. Also, we’ll save a few small pieces of broccoli to put in the soup so there are a few chunks. And we think it would be good to sprinkle some shredded cheese on top just before serving.

This is another very old recipe. I have no idea where I found it but ultimately it came from allrecipes.com, and I did find the recipe online: Chicken and Broccoli Pasta

Broccoli:

Diced tomatoes looked pretty gross:

It didn’t look much better as we added the broccoli:

The finished product:

It didn’t look great, and it didn’t taste much better. We bought the diced tomatoes after having our eyes dilated on Saturday, and accidentally bought the kind with green chiles. I think this was one problem. I also wasn’t crazy about the texture. The broccoli and chicken were good, but the tomatoes didn’t seem quite right in this dish.

So….that’s one less recipe that will be taking up space in our box.

I’ve mentioned that I’ve been collecting recipes for a long time. This is one that I’ve had for years and years. Basically you just mix butter, minced garlic, and oregano together, spread it on the sliced bread, and cook it.

Who needs a recipe for that?

The bread was ok but I didn’t keep the recipe. I’m at least that capable.

The bread before:

The butter mixture:

Darek took my picture for a change:

The finished product:

A slice sitting on a clear plate on top of a pricing sheet…?

Fondue Fest

January 28th, 2009

So last weekend we had a fondue party, which was totally awesome. It was a little bit crazy – I spent most of the night running back and forth between the kitchen and the table, trying to prep everything and keep track of what was going on all over the place – but it was super fun too.

Getting the cheese ready:

Mmmm…..yummness….

Finally sitting down:

Fondueing stuff in oil…
